What to check in any AI marking tool
Five questions that separate tools quickly, whichever ones you are looking at.
- Accuracy evidence
- Has the tool been checked against real examiners’ marks? Who ran the study, on which subjects, and how many marks?
- What you pay for
- Per page, per answer, per pupil or per script. A per-page price looks cheap until you mark a 24-page mock.
- Long scripts
- Can you upload a whole mock as one script, or is there a page limit per upload?
- Your exam boards
- Does it mark against UK exam board mark schemes, and can you add your own criteria?
- Student data
- Where is pupils’ work kept, is there a DPA for schools, and is the work used to train AI models?
Our own figures, method and limits are on the accuracy page.
