Cookie Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This cookie policy explains how Grade Orbit ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website. We are committed to being transparent about how we collect and use data.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and understand how you use the site. Cookies can be "persistent" (remaining on your device until deleted) or "session" (deleted when you close your browser).

Cookies we use

Strictly Necessary CookiesAlways Active

These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be disabled. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as logging in or filling in forms.

Provider: Supabase

Used for authentication and session management. These cookies ensure you stay logged in as you navigate the site.

learner_age_block

Set only on the student (learner) signup form if you indicate you are under 18. It stores a single yes/no flag — nothing else about you — and prevents a further signup attempt from this browser.

Analytics CookiesOn by default

These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website. They collect information anonymously and help us improve our service. Under the UK Data Use and Access Act 2025 statistical exception, analytics cookies are enabled by default. You can opt out at any time via the cookie banner.

Provider: Google Analytics 4

Collects anonymized data about page views, session duration, and general usage patterns. IP addresses are anonymized. Data is used to understand how teachers use Grade Orbit so we can improve the experience.

Session RecordingOptional — requires acceptance

These cookies enable session recording and heatmaps so we can understand how teachers navigate GradeOrbit and identify usability improvements. Only enabled when you explicitly accept analytics cookies.

Provider: Hotjar

Records anonymised session interactions (mouse movements, clicks, scroll depth). No personally identifiable information is captured. Hotjar complies with GDPR and does not sell data to third parties.

Marketing CookiesOptional — requires acceptance

These cookies help us measure the effectiveness of our adverts on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram) and reach teachers who would benefit from GradeOrbit. Only enabled when you explicitly accept analytics cookies.

Provider: Meta (Facebook Pixel)

Tracks page views and conversion events to attribute sign-ups to specific adverts and improve future campaigns. Data is processed by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited under their own privacy terms. Students are excluded from this tracking.

Google Ads CookiesOptional — requires acceptance

These cookies help us measure the effectiveness of our Google adverts and, once accepted, may show you a GradeOrbit advert elsewhere on the web. Only enabled when you explicitly accept analytics cookies.

Provider: Google Ads

Records which advert (if any) led to a visit and, once accepted, tracks sign-ups and purchases to that advert so we can measure and improve campaign performance. Data is processed by Google Ireland Limited under their own privacy terms. School pupils have no account on this site and never reach a page where this tracking runs.

Embedded MapsOptional — loads only when you click "Show map"

When a study plan resource is a place, we show a link to Google Maps by default. If you click "Show map" to see it embedded on the page, Google Maps loads and may set its own cookies at that point — never before you click.

Provider: Google Maps

Loads an interactive map for the place you chose to view. Data is processed by Google Ireland Limited under their own privacy terms.

Managing your preferences

When you first visit our site, you'll see a cookie banner asking for your consent to use optional cookies. You can accept or reject analytics cookies at that time.

To change your preferences later, you can clear your browser's cookies and local storage for this site. The consent banner will appear again on your next visit, allowing you to make a new choice.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies, delete existing cookies, or be warned before a cookie is stored.

Data protection

We process cookie data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). For analytics, we use IP anonymization and do not collect any personally identifiable information through cookies.
